Fly Tying Night
Next Wednesday, the 16th, the El Dorado Chapter of Trout Unlimited will hold its May member meeting at the VFW Lounge, located at 130 Placerville Dr., Placerville (next to Raley’s Market). This will be a fly tying meeting, so bring your vises and we’ll supply the material, including popper bodies. Joe Bania will be demonstrating how to tie poppers and shad flies. Pizza will be available for a $5 donation but BYOBeer. CDFW will provide training on data collection for projects our Chapter will be involved with, including stream and fish surveys. All this aside, stop by for some good discussion among fellow fly fishers and share stories about last month’s outings. All are welcome.
Many of you were very involved with the Caples Creek data collection we did a few years ago which led to the “Wild Trout” designation for Caples. Well, now there is some follow up to Caples and new data is needed for the SFAR. Mitch Lockhart, CDFW Regional Biologist, will be at our fly tying meeting this coming Wednesday from ~7-8 pm to train us on what data they want and show us how he wants us to log it in the booklets he will pass out. Since you must be trained to have your data collection valid, if you can make this meeting, you probably should. They also want us to help with fish count (pole) surveys in a multitude of streams along the SFAR drainage…tough job, I know!! Once trained, these surveys can be done at any time with whomever you want.
