The El Dorado Chapter conducted a Hook-n-Line survey of the Silver Fork of the American River on July19th. Seven members attended from 5-9pm. Of the attendees, 3 were formally trained by DFG/HWTP personnel and 4 were new to the project. All hit the water after a brief safety discussion and overview of the protocol. New members Tom Van Noord and John Wilson teamed with Lew Archuletta and hooked 16 rainbows. Rob Kilbourne teamed with Ron Zigelhofer and landed 3 bows while Erik Holst scrambled the banks with John Sikora and found one rainbow. All action seemed to start at 7:30pm and didn't last much beyond that time and all fished different locations. Fish were in the 7-12 inch range. The three groups stopped fishing between 8-9pm.

Anyone who would like the formal (2 hr.) training by DFG/HWTP should contact . If you take the training you will be given a log book and allowed to record your own data. The DFG desires fishing data on all of the South Fork and its tributaries. When at least 6 sign up, we will contact the DFG to conduct this training. We plan to do this a few more times this summer and will announce the dates and times in chapter e-mails or on the chapter website.
