On Wednesday evening, March 21st from 6-7pm, the El Dorado Chapter of Trout Unlimited will present a night of tying shadd flys and small minnows patterns. Joe Bania will be our instructor for this one hour session. We will provide the basic materials for these tying sessions, but please bring your own vises if you have them, (we will have a few vises as well). This is also a good time to meet other anglers and discuss your recent fishing adventures. Your meeting will be at the VFW Lounge located at 130 Placerville Dr, south of Raley’s market and north of the ED County Fair Grounds on the east side of the road.
The fly tying will be followed by a series of short films, all fishing related from 7-8pm. Pizza (from Brick Oven) will be delivered at 7pm and we’re asking for a $5 donation to help your Chapter defray costs (BYOB). The films include Obsession - Fly Fishing for Big Brown Trout in Oregon,(16 min.) a great film on catching those fighting monsters in our bordering state; followed by Lapland in Waders,(4 min.) another fun film showing what those huge Browns like to eat when fishing flat water; then comes Kamchatka - In the Words of our Guests (4 min.). Here the Redding Fly Shop shows us what it’s like fishing for HUGE Rainbows in Russian waters and the exciting package. Then we have Strobel Lake by Todd Moen - Argentina Fly Fishing,(8 min.) some of our members may recognize locations and FISH they recall from past excursions. Next, Stan will then present: Rio McCloud, Argentina/Chile, (14 min.) where we’ll view one of California’s famous rivers: the McCloud. Even though this English speaking film was filmed for the folks in Argentina, it details some of the rivers majestic history and shows the kind of fish we all hear it holds. We also have a short on fishing Spring Creeks in Montana. After these short films, we can discuss this format and talk about future mini film festivals possibly using other formats.
